Our Emirates flight touched down in Dubai 50 minutes ahead of schedule so we had a walk through the terminal before settling down with drinks and snacks in one of the cafes. The terminal seemed much quieter than when we had passed through on our outward journey. Two years ago we had a nine hour stopover in Dubai so we left the airport to explore the city. If you’d like to check out some ideas for spending a few hours in Dubai you can read my previous post here.
The flight to Manchester was on a Boeing 777 airliner which has narrower seats than the A380 and feels somewhat cramped. It was a full flight and so we didn’t have the luxury of sitting by ourselves. A light meal was served soon after take off then after the cabin lights were dimmed we both managed a few hours sleep. The hot breakfast was actually quite tasty and feeling awake by then I watched my final film of the holiday ‘Before We Go’ a rather nice film about a chance encounter between two strangers in New York City.
We collected our luggage at Manchester and one of our smart, new Wenger suitcases arrived battered and with two broken wheels so we had to obtain a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the baggage hall.
Travelling home by train, northern England was warm and sunny, trees had sprouted leaves and Spring had arrived – so different from 12 days earlier when we set off on a cold, damp morning.
Well, that’s the end of another splendid trip which we enjoyed immensely and as always we returned with happy memories that will last with us forever.
