I loved living there at 800 Thomson Road until we decided to develop the property there. It is a very lucky number with the meaning double double prosperity and it is on a hill overlooking water which is the Macritchie Reservoir so has even more luck attached to the property. My office was on the tenth floor of Suntec City building complex in Marina Bay with a fabulous view. It was hard to leave Singapore behind to move to a university in the Philippines for a while before returning to Australia after thirty years in Asia.

800 Thomson Road sounded idyllic Ian. You must have such fond memories of your 30 years in Asia. Did you settle back in the same part of Australia that you were originally from?

Thank you Maggie. There’s lots more to see such as Sentosa and its cable car, Pula Ubin and several hiking trails that we’ve enjoyed in recent years.

I LOVE Singapore, and it’s become my #1 favorite country I’ve visited so far. 48 hours in town is a solid introduction to all that it offers, from gorgeous botanical gardens, delicious hawker centre food, and everything in between. Your post makes me want to return to Singapore sooner than later. Thanks for sharing, Marion!

I didn’t first visit until around 10 years ago but can appreciate all the changes and expansion due to land reclamation. Different but still beautiful! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.

Singapore is the perfect stopover for a trip to Asia. There is so much to see that it’s difficult to see everything in one go, and I didn’t manage to do so during my short stay. Your itinerary seems like an interesting one to consider. The concise 2-day itinerary perfectly captures Singapore’s “City in a Garden” essence. From the historic charm of Chinatown and Lau Pa Sat’s hawker delights to the futuristic Supertree Grove, it balances heritage with modern marvels. A fantastic guide for anyone looking to maximize a short stay or stopover!
