Day 1. A short break in Oslo

After spending the night in Edinburgh we took a Ryanair flight from Edinburgh Airport to Oslo Torp.   Edinburgh is my favourite UK regional airport, it’s modern, stylish has a good choice of shops and cafes and is small enough to reach gates without lengthy walks.

Coming into land at Torp we had good views along Oslofjord and its surrounding coniferous forests.  Torp is a tiny airport, mostly used by low cost carriers such as Ryanair.  Connecting coaches transfer passengers to the city centre one hour away but the coach fare is exorbitant and with hindsight we would have been better flying BA or SAS to Oslo Gardemon as the total cost would have been similar and we would have saved a lot of time. Still, we were there and excited as we got off the bus because we had come to meet some Norwegian friends we hadn’t seen for a very long time.

Our friends live in Ski, a small town 35 minutes by train from the centre of Oslo, so off we went and it was lovely to be reunited with them and share memories around their dinner table.

Thanks for visiting my blog about my family’s adventures living here in Costa Rica! Have you ever visited? Your posts about Norway made me happy. My father is Norwegian and we spent almost a month in Norway last year visiting relatives and driving all over the country. I met cousins I didn’t even know I had. It was so fun! We all loved it and will definitely be back for more.

How exciting! My best friend & I are doing a backpacking trip through Europe next year and our first stop is Oslo, Norway!! Did you have any recommendations on what to do/see/eat there? I am honestly not that familiar with the city as we are only flying there because it has the cheapest ticket price from America!

You could perhaps do some of the things we did on our first two days so if you check out Days 1 and 2 of my Oslo posts you can see the main attractions, most of which are free. Oslo is one of the most expensive cities in Europe so food and drinkis extremely expensive, but I’m sure you will have a nice time.
