Exploring Ayia Napa, Cyprus with Jet2holidays

There is always something exciting about heading off on a press trip, especially when the destination is somewhere as beautiful as Cyprus. My recent Jet2holidays trip to Ayia Napa combined luxury accommodation, fascinating culture, stunning coastlines and delicious food, making it an unforgettable four night escape.

Day 1: Travelling to Cyprus and settling in to our luxurious hotel

London Stansted Airport
London Stansted Airport

My journey began at London Stansted Airport, where I met up with a friendly group of five fellow travel bloggers before our flight to Larnaca with Jet2. From the moment we arrived at the airport everything was well organised. Check-in with Jet2holidays was refreshingly easy with plenty of helpful staff on hand to assist passengers. One thing I particularly appreciated was that passengers travelling together are seated together as standard, something that definitely sets Jet2 apart from many other low-cost airlines. Jet2 have established a large base with a choice of over 55 flights from London Stansted Airport.

Our flight departed on time and the four hour forty-minute journey passed surprisingly quickly allowing plenty of time to sit back and start getting excited about the days ahead. Light refreshments were available throughout the flight and were all reasonably priced so we enjoyed snacks and drinks which helped to pass the time and prevent hunger pangs.

This was my first holiday to Cyprus so I was really excited to visit and explore the island. After landing in Larnaca, we enjoyed a short coach transfer to Ayia Napa, where we received the warmest welcome at the luxurious Nissi Blu Beach Resort with Jet2holidays. Glasses of chilled Prosecco were waiting for us on arrival — the perfect start to our stay.

My room was spacious, elegant and beautifully furnished in calming neutral tones. However, it was the balcony view that truly stole the show. Looking out across the sparkling turquoise waters of Nissi Beach, I instantly knew this was going to be a very special trip.

Day 2: Nissi Beach, Ayia Napa Marina & Sculpture Park

The following morning began with a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel. Fresh pastries, fruit, local specialities and made-to-order omelettes provided the perfect start to a busy day of exploring.

Our first stop was the famous Nissi Beach, just a short stroll from the hotel. The beach looked every bit as idyllic as the photographs suggest. Crystal clear shallow water gently lapped against soft white sand, while the bright Mediterranean sunshine made the sea shimmer in endless shades of blue.

From there, we continued along the coastline towards Makronissos Beach. Slightly quieter and more peaceful than Nissi Beach, it offered a wonderfully scenic setting for a leisurely seaside walk. The golden sand and calm waters created the perfect backdrop as we wandered along the shoreline enjoying the idyllic surroundings.

Just a short distance away, we then explored the Makronissos Hellenistic Tombs, one of the area’s lesser-known historical attractions. Dating back thousands of years, these ancient burial chambers carved into the rock offered a fascinating glimpse into Cyprus’ rich past. Walking around the site, surrounded by rugged coastal scenery and Mediterranean vegetation was extremely interesting.

Moving on, a short coach transfer took us to the stylish Ayia Napa Marina. The marina itself was stunning, filled with luxury yachts and lined with modern restaurants and cafés overlooking the water. A lively food festival was taking place during our visit, adding even more atmosphere to the area. Stalls selling local delicacies, music and entertainment created a vibrant setting that was lovely to experience.

Lunch was at Riva Beachouse by Frame, where we enjoyed delicious cocktails and Mediterranean dishes overlooking the marina. The setting was absolutely beautiful, with uninterrupted sea views and a relaxed contemporary atmosphere. Long lunches in the sunshine are one of the great joys of travelling, and this was certainly one of the highlights of the day.

After lunch, we headed to the Ayia Napa Sea Museum, where we spent time exploring exhibits dedicated to the island’s maritime history. Historic ships, preserved marine life and archaeological displays offered fascinating insights into Cyprus’ long relationship with the sea. The museum was both educational and engaging, providing a different perspective on the island beyond its beaches and resorts.

Ayia Napa Sculpture Park

We then enjoyed a stroll through the Ayia Napa Sculpture Park, which quickly became one of my favourite places we visited during the trip. Set on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean, the park features an impressive collection of large contemporary sculptures created by artists from around the world. The combination of art, sea views and peaceful walking paths made it a wonderfully relaxing place to explore.

After a little time to rest and freshen up back at the hotel, we headed out for dinner at Ploumin Taverna in the traditional village of Sotira. The evening provided a completely different side to Cyprus away from the busy resort atmosphere.

We were treated to a wonderful traditional meze, with dish after dish arriving at the table throughout the evening. Fresh salads, grilled meats, local cheese, dips and warm breads allowed us to sample an authentic taste of Cypriot hospitality. The warm atmosphere, traditional surroundings and excellent food made it the perfect way to end a memorable day.

Day 3: Blue Lagoon Cruise and Cape Greco National Forest Park

After an early breakfast, we transferred to Ayia Napa harbour to board the Blue Lagoon cruise boat for what proved to be a wonderfully relaxing and memorable morning on the water. Cruising along the stunning coastline, we were treated to spectacular views of the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea and dramatic rock formations.

The boat made swimming and snorkelling stops at both Konnos Bay and the breathtaking Blue Lagoon, where the turquoise waters were almost impossible to resist. There were opportunities to swim in the warm sea or to simply relax on deck soaking up the sunshine. Cocktails and a delicious buffet lunch served onboard added to the enjoyment, making it a truly idyllic Mediterranean adventure.

The beautiful scenery continued throughout the afternoon as, after viewing the coastline from the sea, we boarded our coach to explore some of the most scenic spots around Cape Greco National Forest Park and the Protaras seafront. Our journey included visits to the famous Fig Tree Bay, the fascinating Cyclops Cave and the Nissi Neolithic settlement, each offering its own unique charm and spectacular coastal views. At every stop we enjoyed leisurely strolls, taking in the natural beauty and capturing plenty of photographs of the stunning surroundings.

Our afternoon sightseeing concluded with a visit to the famous Love Bridge in Ayia Napa where the dramatic rock arch and sparkling sea provided yet another unforgettable viewpoint and a perfect end to a wonderful day of exploring Cyprus.

Dinner that evening was a relaxed and sociable affair at Taverna Napa, where we were once again treated to a traditional Cypriot meze. The variety of freshly prepared local dishes, combined with the vibrant atmosphere, provided the perfect conclusion to another exceptional day with Jet2holidays in Cyprus.

Day 4: Exploring Larnaca and unleashing our creative talents

Day four in Ayia Napa offered a completely different vibe, focusing on creativity, culture and local experiences. Our morning began with a workshop at CyHerbia Botanic Garden, where we enjoyed learning how to make soap and face mist using natural ingredients.

It was a fun and relaxing experience, and I was especially delighted with the beautiful rose-shaped soap I created to take home as a souvenir. Even without attending a workshop, CyHerbia is well worth a visit, with its lovely botanical gardens, fascinating maze and attractive café terrace where visitors can relax with cooling drinks surrounded by nature.

Larnaca promenade

Later that morning we travelled to Larnaca, where we spent time exploring this charming coastal city. We strolled along the palm-lined Finikoudes Promenade, visited Larnaca Medieval Castle and explored the beautiful Church of Saint Lazarus, one of the city’s most famous landmarks. There was also time to browse the nearby municipal market before heading to lunch at Sunmoon Hospitality.

Lunch was yet another delicious buffet featuring a wonderful selection of fresh salads, traditional hummus, grilled halloumi and other authentic Cypriot dishes. Afterwards, we enjoyed a cocktail-making class where I made and tasted my very first Brandy Sour, Cyprus’ signature cocktail. It certainly won’t be my last, as it was absolutely delicious and a great way to experience another part of Cypriot culture.

Our creative skills were tested once again during a pottery workshop at Studio Ceramics in Larnaca’s artisan neighbourhood. Under expert guidance, I made a jug of my own and cannot wait to see the finished result once it has been fired and glazed. It was such a rewarding and memorable hands-on experience.

That evening we returned to Ayia Napa for dinner on the terrace at Agra Restaurant. There was a wonderful atmosphere and the quality of the food was exceptional, providing the perfect setting for a relaxed final evening in Cyprus.

Day 5: A relaxing morning by the pool followed by a fish meze lunch

On our final morning, there was time to unwind and enjoy the facilities at the luxurious NissiBlu Beach Resort before departing for Larnaca at lunchtime. Close to the airport, we enjoyed one last leisurely meal at Zephyros Restaurant, where we were treated to an incredible fish meze featuring a superb selection of freshly prepared seafood dishes.

Then, all too soon, it was time to return to the airport after a wonderful four days in Ayia Napa. Like many people, I had previously thought of Ayia Napa simply as a party destination, but this trip completely changed my perspective. Beyond the nightlife, the resort offers luxurious hotels, beautiful beaches, fascinating culture, museums, delicious cuisine and a wide variety of activities, making it the perfect destination for couples, families and travellers looking for far more than just a beach holiday and nightlife. I’m feeling a bit jealous after visiting Cyprus on my own a few weeks ago. Ayia Napa certainly has a lot to offer visitors. Furthermore, distances are reasonable in Cyprus and there are good motorways for visiting other parts of the island, particularly the capital, Nicosia, which isn’t too far away.

I must confess I had a rather negative view of Cyprus, without actually having been there, very remiss of me! Having read about your wonderful press trip, Marion, you have opened my eyes to the beauty of Cyprus: the culture, scenery, food and the range of activities to be enjoyed. Thank you!

Cyprus looks beautiful. How fun to visit as part of a press trip with some fellow travel bloggers. Sounds like you got to participate in a nice range of activities to learn more about the history of the area and enjoy the natural scenery and ocean. The workshop at the botanic garden sounds super fun.

We were in Larnaca long time ago (oh, and I should also say, we were inside the plane) waiting for passengers to board on our way to Malta. With tombs, beaches, national park and good food (the traditional meze sounds delicious), it sounds like you had a wonderful time. We always thought we would enjoy visiting Cyprus – and now, after reading your post, I’m convinced we still need to go there!

How lovely! I was invited on this trip but couldn’t make it work with my job being crazy – such a shame I couldn’t meet you (and Cat I see) in person 🙂 I’m sad I missed out as it looks beautiful.

Oh Hannah, that’s such a pity that you were unable to come along. I was actually invited on the previous trip but was already committed to something else so it was lovely that they asked me again. Hopefully they will for you as well!

I had the exact same outdated mental image of Ayia Napa as just a party town, so it was great to read how much more there is — the hillside Sculpture Park overlooking the Mediterranean and the Blue Lagoon cruise especially caught my eye. As a family that travels, the mix of swimming stops, hands-on workshops and those long meze lunches sounds like it would keep both kids and parents genuinely happy. That balcony view over Nissi Beach must have been hard to leave.

I’ve never been to Cyprus though have been invited to visit friends who are relocating there for work this summer. I may now take them up on their kind offer. Meanwhile, my sister is holidaying in Cyprus this September and I’ve sent her a copy of your post for ideas on what to see and do.
