Travel diaries providing inspiration for planning the perfect trip

About me

Welcome to my travel blog, Love Travelling.  I’m Marion, an award winning independent traveller writing about my visits to countries near and far.

I research destinations myself and that’s part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides, looking things up online and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel,  I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life around the world and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane, I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

Cadiz, Spain
Cadiz, Spain

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That was the original reason why I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!  From starting as a hobby my blog has evolved into an award winning online travel resource providing inspiration to fellow travellers.

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.  I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language, and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.  I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

Travel as much as you can, as far as you can, as long as you can. Life’s not meant to be lived in one place

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Jersey, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore,  Dream,  Discover.

Mark  Twain

As well as overseas travel, I’m also a firm supporter and champion of the British Isles.  From dynamic cities to rural towns and villages and from seaside resorts to national parks there is so much to enjoy and be proud of.  Within this section of my blog I explore short breaks and days out at places of interest.

Hopefully, drawing on my personal experiences, I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of your holidays and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

I can relate to your biography, particularly when you say “a teacher and aspiring travel blogger who works part time and spends the rest of the week dreaming of foreign lands and planning her next adventure. I’m an independent traveller, researching destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.” I too am a teacher, although full time, and while I have traveled a lot, my primary focus is Italy. Good luck with your travels!

I found you through Miriam’s blog. I love travelling, though I haven’t been able to do as much as I like. But I also love reading about travelling. Although I’m based in Japan, I’m from Canada, and occasionally post about what I’ve seen in Japan. But we’re moving to Canada next month, and I’m looking forward to doing some travelling.

I’ll be back to read more 🙂

The quote you posted of Mark Twain? I have it on a post card on my wall I just started my blog on travelling and all fun stuff, and I am new in the community so I’m still trying to figure out how this works (Aka I don’t really know what I’m doing!) I like your blog, maybe you have some advice for me… for instance, writing a post about myself to say who I am seems a great idea, I was so excited to be online that I immediately wrote about my last trip! Looking forward to read your travel adventures!

Loved the description of your visit to Malaysia – we’ve stayed in Malacca about four times and love the place. For me Geographers Bar on Jonkers St is a people watching area for me.
If you get the chance visit Penang and try and stay at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel – all mod cons but with the ambiance of the old days.
My wife & I have used Qatar for the long haul from Asia to Europe a number of times because we find the service is very good.
Our next trip (leaving SYD in seven weeks) includes flying back from Dubai with QR to KL for a short stay in Penang (E & O of course) :- o)

Thank you for reading my posts and its pleasing to read that you enjoyed them. I once had a four day stop over in Penang on the way to Australia but our hotel wasn’t so good. The E & O sounds just like my sort of place. Qatar Airways are really good, we’ve used them twice now and been very pleased both times. Enjoy your forthcoming trip and I’ll look forward to reading about it in due course!

Like your story, before I travel with all the luxury of travelling because I’m representing the Philippines in world bodybuilding and Asian competion for ten consecutive years from 1973 to 1982 but now I enjoying much because there is no iterinary to follow, you don’t need to wake up early to get on the organizer plan. I’m a traveller without any plan or idea about the country that I’m visiting I only google about it when I’m there to check what is the best thing to do.anyway good luck and wish the best for your travel and your family.

Ciao, Marion. Unlike you, I didn’t get a chance to leave my country until I was 22. (Canada doesn’t count.) But when I graduated from college, I traveled around the world for a year. I caught a travel bug that is with me to this day. It’s a wonderful illness, isn’t it? Travel?

I’m following you now. I’m looking forward to reading your adventures.
