Location
Set on the edge of Adelaide’s beautiful Botanic Gardens, the National Wine Centre of Australia enjoys a prime position just a few minutes from the city centre. Its striking architectural design was inspired by the curves of a wine barrel which blends in well with the surrounding parklands. The location makes it an ideal stop for visitors wishing to combine gardens and wine appreciation in one afternoon.
About the National Wine Centre of Australia

The National Wine Centre of Australia is a showcase of Australia’s rich and diverse wine industry. Designed to both educate and inspire, the centre brings together history, innovation and contemporary wine culture under one roof. As visitors are able to explore the story of Australian wine from its early beginnings to its world-wide success today we thought it would be really nice to visit especially with its particular focus on South Australia’s world-renowned wine regions.

Taste of Australia Experience
Our experience began with a guided tour led by a knowledgeable host who offered insights into Australia’s wine heritage, grape varieties and regional characteristics.

The tour moved through the Centre’s interactive spaces using maps, displays and storytelling to explain how Australia’s key wine regions developed and what defined them. The sommelier explained grape varieties, regional differences and winemaking techniques with practical examples that helped link climate and geography to what ends up in the glass.

The tour was followed by a sommelier-led tasting of four premium South Australian wines. Each wine had been thoughtfully selected to showcase the diversity and quality of the state’s wine regions.

Complementing the wines were regional canapés, beautifully created to enhance the tasting experience. The pairing of local flavours with the outstanding wines allowed us to fully savour the essence of South Australia in both food and wine.
Temporary Galleries and Exhibitions
In addition to its permanent displays, the National Wine Centre features temporary galleries that host rotating exhibitions throughout the year. These exhibitions explore contemporary wine themes, emerging trends, art and innovation within the wine industry. This ever-changing programme ensures that repeat visitors always discover something new and engaging. Whilst we were visiting the temporary exhibition focussed on spring flowers.
Wined Bar

The restaurant at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide is called Wined Bar, offering coffee, brunch, lunch and a vast selection of Australian wines with a tapas-style or full menu. For sunny days there’s also a terrace overlooking the Botanic Gardens where diners can also enjoy lunch and a glass of wine.
A Must-Visit Destination

Whether you are a wine lover, a foodie, or simply exploring Adelaide, the National Wine Centre of Australia offers an enriching and memorable experience. From its stunning location and informative exhibits to the Taste of Australia Experience, temporary galleries and exceptional dining, it stands as a true celebration of Australia’s wine culture.
