Situated on Adler Street in the vibrant East End, The Corner London City Hotel enjoys an excellent location for visitors wanting to experience a slightly different side of London. The hotel sits within easy walking distance of Aldgate East Underground station, which makes getting around the city quick and convenient. From there, the London Underground connects to central London attractions in minutes.

Arrival and check-in:

We had arrived by main line train into London Kings Cross station and from there just needed to take the Hammersmith & City Line eastbound to Aldgate East Station, taking just 15 minutes. It was then just a three minute walk though a small park to reach the The Corner London City Hotel.

The hotel lobby is a welcoming area with a modern, eco-conscious ethos and contemporary style that reflects its East London location. Instead of the formal, traditional reception desks you might expect in larger hotels, the atmosphere felt more informal and friendly.

It’s possible to check-in on one of the self service screens but as no-one else was waiting at the reception desk we opted for a personal experience. After having our dinner reservation confirmed we were soon taking one of the lifts up to our room on the second floor.

The room:

The hotel offers three room categories — SnugCosy, and Plush — each designed with smart layouts that maximise the available space. We had been booked into one of the Plush rooms which are the largest option available and it felt very spacious indeed. The room featured a comfortable king size bed along with a sofa, making it a practical option for accommodating a third guest if required. The room boasted large floor to ceiling windows allowing plenty of natural light to flood the room.

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability and creative design is evident throughout. There is a strong emphasis on up-cycling with lamps cleverly fashioned from old hose pipes, and tables created from repurposed workbenches. These details give the room an industrial yet stylish feel that reflects the character of the surrounding East London neighbourhood.

A particularly distinctive feature is the hotel’s unique pod-style Qbic headboard, positioned behind the bed. This structure cleverly incorporates the stylish bathroom behind it, creating a striking design element while also making efficient use of space. The bathroom area includes a large walk-in shower with good water pressure, large fluffy towels and eco-friendly toiletries from Be Kind, which aligns perfectly with the hotel’s sustainability ethos. Guests staying more than one night can opt out of having their rooms cleaned and instead enjoy a voucher for a free drink in the bar.

Dining:

Dining at The Corner London City Hotel takes place in the open plan relaxed Kitchen restaurant that matches perfectly the hotel’s informal atmosphere. We chose to have dinner at the hotel on our first evening, enjoying hearty classic dishes of steak and chips and minted lamb cutlets. Both our mains were well prepared and of a generous size which was just what we needed after a day exploring the city.

The restaurant also offers a selection of wines available by the glass or bottle which are reasonably priced for London making it perfect to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Breakfast the following morning included a wide range of options such as pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cereals and hot items, along with plenty of fresh coffee which was the perfect start before heading out for the day.

Facilities:

The lobby doubles as a casual social space where guests can relax, work or enjoy a drink with board games and easy to connect to Wi-Fi readily available. A particularly thoughtful feature is that each floor has its own tea and coffee making station, available free for guests to use throughout their stay. It’s a simple but very welcome addition. Mugs are provided in rooms and it was just as easy to pop along the corridor to make our drinks as to have a kettle in the room.

Out and About:

One of the biggest advantages of staying at The Corner London City Hotel is how easy it is to explore the surrounding neighbourhood.

Brick Lane, East London

Just a short walk away is Brick Lane, a lively street known for its colourful street art, vintage shops and buzzing food scene. Nearby Whitechapel Gallery offers a cultural highlight, showcasing contemporary art exhibitions throughout the year. My favourite spot though is an easy walk along to Old Spitalfields Market which is a must-visit destination.

Nowadays, this historic covered market is packed with independent retailers, artisan goods and lots of tempting cafes and street food outlets.

Our stay at The Corner London City Hotel was thoroughly enjoyable. The hotel combines modern comfort with a strong commitment to sustainability and creative design. The hotel’s quirky, creative design resonates perfectly with the surrounding East London neighbourhood, reflecting the artistic and slightly edgy character of nearby Brick Lane. For guests looking for a modern, reasonably priced, eco-friendly hotel with personality and a great location, it’s a wonderful choice.

Oh you must Shane as I’m sure you would enjoy exploring Brick Lane and the gentrified Spitalfields Market. The Corner London City is very convenient and offers good value. Hope you’re enjoying Easter. We’re happily home based with family around us.

It’s a little bit different, but it works! This isn’t an area of London I know at all, but it looks fun to explore. I do like the books and board games in the lounge- very thoughtful.

The hotel differs from.my usual choice but despite not looking much from the exterior, the inside is very vibrant and blends well with its edgy neighbourhood. I’d definitely recommend spending some time exploring the East End in particular, Old Spitalfields Market Helen.

Nice. The only hotel I’ve stayed in in London was the Barbican. Does it still operate under that name?

Thanks for your interest Ian, The Corner London City was a great place to stay for exploring the East End. Yes, the Barbican Hotel does still exist. I remember staying there with my mother many years ago.

Thanks Linda, The Corner London was a quirky but pleasing change from our usual hotel.preferences. its location was convenient from exploring the East End and also quick to reach other parts of London as there was a tube station a few minutes walk away.

I used to live near Southend in an Essex village and worked in the City for twenty years so I know the area well. My husband hasn’t been to Brick Lane. So you just reminded me to go for an Indian together after a swift look around Spitalfields. The hotel looks great.

East London isn’t the part of London I’m most familiar with. It’s true that when arriving at St Pancras, I find it more convenient to stay in a hotel within walking distance, as the neighbourhood is well-suited for this, including with prices that are moderate for London. However, The Corner London City Hotel would be a very good option for a stay focused on this neighbourhood, which also has its own attractions, as you point out.

East London has definitely grown on me over recent years and with the hotel being just steps away from the District Line one can get to Westminster in 20 minutes. Thanks for your interest.

That is a very unique hotel! I’ve never seen a tv on the end of a bed like that, but it is a good way to maximize space.

From the outside, it doesn’t look like much. But I just love that once you step inside, there are lots of beautiful indoor plants, and an open plan layout which includes plenty of seating, and a handful of cosy corners and multipurpose side rooms perfect for dining, working and socialising. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

These were my thoughts too Aiva as we also wondered what it would be like internally from its mundane exterior. On stepping inside, we adored it’s quirky appeal and upcycled furniture. Thanks for your interest and have a great weekend.

I love these smaller hotels in older buildings that create special stay experiences. Those portions do look large for sure. Happy Friday Marion. Allan
