When planning my trips both around the UK and abroad I often make use of online search tools to find the best value flights and hotels. The ones I use most often and find most useful are listed below and will hopefully help you plan your own trips:
The best site I’ve found for searching for flights, Kayak provides price comparison across most booking sites and includes options such as flexible dates and filtering by time and airport. Options for comparing hotels and car hire are also available.
In a similar way that I generally use Kayak for flights I find Trivago a good resource for comparing hotels and prices at different booking sites. Featuring simple searches by date and destination, hotels can easily be filtered by price, location, number of stars and guest reviews.
For parking at UK airports Purple Parking is useful for comparing different providers and generally offering rates greatly below that of the airports themselves. As a family we’ve used this site many times and have never had any problems with the airport parking provided.
For trips within the UK and Ireland as well as unavoidable overnight stays at airports such as Heathrow I’ve found Travelodge often provide the best value accommodation. They provide consistent, smart rooms in good locations and at prices often well below those of other major chains.
Hopefully these websites are useful in researching and booking your own trip. If you have any suggestions as to other sites that may be helpful to others then please let me know.
