About me

Welcome to my travel blog, Love Travelling.  I’m Marion, an independent traveller writing about my visits to countries near and far.

I  research destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.  That’s part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides, looking things up online and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel,  I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life around the world and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane, I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That was the original reason why I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!  From starting as a hobby my blog has evolved into an award winning online travel resource providing inspiration to fellow travellers.

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.  I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language, and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.  I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

As well as overseas travel, I’m also a firm supporter and champion of the British Isles.  From dynamic cities to rural towns and villages and from seaside resorts to national parks there is so much to enjoy and be proud of.  Within this section of my blog I explore short breaks and days out at places of interest.   I take my photographs using my Lumix TZ80 camera which I really like as it’s easy to use, has good features and is small enough to fit into my handbag.

Hopefully, drawing on my personal experiences, I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of your holidays and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

  1. Dear Miss,
Your photos are great and you do a lot of traveling. Good for you. I have one comment. “Immersing” oneself means really sinking into the culture, getting wet, so to speak. My suggestion would be to look up an AirBnB, or similar lodgings inside people’s homes or a real, locally run hotel, when you stay abroad. You will be surprised how much closer you get to the local people and the culture. Safe travels and have fun.

Hey there, thanks for liking a post on my blog! I feel honoured that someone who has won an international travel blog contest apparently thinks I write well.

That camera of yours looks great, too! I wonder if I should purchase one before my trip.

  3. Do all you can whilst you can. We had never wanted to travel, but all that changed in 1986 when my husband went to work in Bangladesh for a year. At the age of 40 I took my first flight and two very excited children to visit him and whilst there we also visited Nepal. It made me realise that though our own country is no less beautiful, the world out there is very different and beautiful in different ways. We were hooked, and our hobby became travel. We made a conscious decision to do the long haul whilst we could and we did travelling to many parts of the world, especially Asia which we love. Now in our 70,s and less able we are discovering Europe and our own country, but I so wish we had the foresight to start our travels earlier in life.

    1. Thank you so much for making contact and for your kind words, it’s lovely to hear from you. You are so right, Travel is such a wonderful hobby and through it we learn and experience so much. I also have a love for Asia but have not yet visited the Indian sub-continent.

  4. Thank you for ‘liking’ the recent ‘bank holiday hell’ post on my blog. I was interested to read some of the posts on yours, especially about Manchester and the BBC Media City tour. I only live 13 miles from Manchester but haven’t been there since 1994, however I’ve recently booked on the new Coronation Street tour for July, I’m going with a friend and can’t wait! 🙂

  8. That’s a lot of countries visited! When you say “United States” though, or even “Canada” these are comprised of such vastly different regions they could be different countries within…what parts did you visit of the USA?

    1. Hi Gail, In the USA I’ve visited many of the national parks in the west, plus explored the west coast from Big Sur up to the Canadian border. In the east, I’ve been to NYC, Washington, and toured round neighbouring states and I’ve also visited Chicago. Thank you for taking time to read and comment on my blog, it’s much appreciated.

  9. Hi, Marion, I see we share a common wanderlust for the world. My husband and I (from New Orleans) are living in Pula, Croatia and are visiting different areas in Europe while we are here. Have you ever been to Pula or Rovinj? The whole Istrian Peninsula is beautiful. Let me know if you pass this way!
