About me

Welcome to my travel blog, Love Travelling.  I’m Marion, an independent traveller writing about my visits to countries near and far.

I  research destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.  That’s part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides, looking things up online and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel,  I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life around the world and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane, I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That was the original reason why I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!  From starting as a hobby my blog has evolved into an award winning online travel resource providing inspiration to fellow travellers.

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.  I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language, and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.  I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

As well as overseas travel, I’m also a firm supporter and champion of the British Isles.  From dynamic cities to rural towns and villages and from seaside resorts to national parks there is so much to enjoy and be proud of.  Within this section of my blog I explore short breaks and days out at places of interest.   I take my photographs using my Lumix TZ80 camera which I really like as it’s easy to use, has good features and is small enough to fit into my handbag.

Hopefully, drawing on my personal experiences, I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of your holidays and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

  2. These are great thoughts and I’m so inspired while reading this. It’s always my dream to travel, take photos and invest on memories but unfortunately, my time is limited and I’m not ready to give up my career yet to be a full time blogger or traveler. Anyway, hope you can visit Philippines someday as I would love to tour you around 🙂

  3. Hi Little Miss Traveler,

I have also been a traveler, for the past 7 years we traveled and worked at Resorts in the U.S. It was fun, but now we have settled in one place for awhile. Sounds like you are having fun too. We loved driving and taking our time seeing the wonderful country and meeting new people. Good luck on your journeys and Safe Travels. Looking forward to hearing about more of your travels.

  4. Your blog is a tremendous travel resource. We have traveled in tour groups and by ourselves, and agree totally that going about it ourselves is a better experience, especially when things go mostly as expected.

I do a lot of research and planning for trips, but you take it to a much higher level including detailed transportation routes, where and how to buy tickets and they type of ticket.

While language differences matter, we found learning important cultural differences is more useful. In France, there is a world of difference in how a simple “Bonjour Madame or Monsieur” can make your passage so much smoother, even if you don’t speak French, and especially if the other person happens to be a ticket vendor, hotel receptionist or waiter.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. Thank you for looking at my WordPress web page, I really appreciate it! I like yours on your travels, and especially your comments about how you got your ideas on where to go and see what countries you have seen–from the travel books in the local library! I have only been to the two countries with their borders from the U.S.A., namely Mexico and Canada, and since I’m retired and living on a small pension from my teaching career, I don’t have the money necessary to go any place at all but do live in what I consider the most beautiful part of North America, the Pacific Northwest in Washington State. Anyway, I look forward to reading the rest of your posts and especially since that is the only way I will ever see all of these different countries–by reading where you have gone and also by visiting the local library (and watching travel programs on our PBS TV station as well). By the way, I really like your WordPress format that you use and was wondering what it is called? I have had mine since last year and have just added my postings that I have before only put on my Facebook page for my friends; but I am getting kind of tired of my format and maybe would like to look into some new ones to use. Anyway, thanks for reading my postings and I really like your web page here in WordPress!

      1. Thanking you too following this comment thread… I’m glad that you visited my blog page and loving your blog posts too. We are so a ‘like’ …
        Have you ever visited Australia?
I have travelled to many places in the world, but I am lucky to be living in Perth and hope to have the opportunity to share this diverse and beautiful country with many others
We are planning some new trips for this year, I hope that this may tempt you to travel to our land down under…
ps I have used the same format for my WordPress pages for many years too, but you are inspiring me to also explore using different templates, although I am not as tech savvy as you guys.

  6. Congratulations on your extensive travel. I am also a traveler who enjoys the planning just about as much as the trip itself. I have only been blogging a short while and have only made a few trip related posts. However, your blog is encouraging me to go back and start telling my story of travel.

  7. Out of all the countries you have visited I can claim about seven of those but I have traveled to some which you have not as yet. I love that you make sure you bring your individual experiences of these travels in your writing. I believe that’s every bit as valuable as bringing pertinent information to the travel table. Each person has their own story. Marvelous. I hope to be able to bring more of this out in my books rather than on my blog.
    Thanks for all the stories.
