About me

Welcome to my travel blog, Love Travelling.  I’m Marion, an independent traveller writing about my visits to countries near and far.

I  research destinations myself without the need for a tour guide or packaged trip.  That’s part of the fun – visiting the local library and selecting some travel guides, looking things up online and, of course, all the amazing tips I discover from fellow travel bloggers.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. Augustine of Hippo

My passion is travel,  I just love visiting new places, immersing myself into local cultures of life around the world and discovering the unexpected!  Stepping off a plane, I’m always in a hurry to get my passport stamped, reclaim my luggage and walk out of the arrivals hall ready to begin a new adventure.

I love the planning, the anticipation, the journey, be it by plane, train, bus or boat and of course, the actual holiday and finally all the wonderful memories and experiences I bring home that live with me forever.  That was the original reason why I created this blog so that I could have an online diary of my recent trips to look back on in the future.  I’ve been surprised but thrilled that so many of you have taken an interest in my travels and enjoy reading about my trips – it’s very encouraging and makes me very happy!  From starting as a hobby my blog has evolved into an award winning online travel resource providing inspiration to fellow travellers.

I didn’t set foot on foreign soil until the age of 13, on a school holiday to the Black Forest in Germany, travelling by coach and ferry.  I adored everything about that first trip, from the little things like driving off the ferry on the other side of the road, the strange money and the language, and I knew from that day on, that I wanted to explore as many different countries as time and money would allow and to experience local cultures first hand.  I’ve been fortunate in being able to fulfil my dream and to share my love of travel with my family but, naturally, there are so many destinations still out there waiting to be explored.

The countries I’ve been fortunate to visit to date are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

As well as overseas travel, I’m also a firm supporter and champion of the British Isles.  From dynamic cities to rural towns and villages and from seaside resorts to national parks there is so much to enjoy and be proud of.  Within this section of my blog I explore short breaks and days out at places of interest.   I take my photographs using my Lumix TZ80 camera which I really like as it’s easy to use, has good features and is small enough to fit into my handbag.

Hopefully, drawing on my personal experiences, I may be able to pass on some useful insights and travel tips to help you get the most out of your holidays and perhaps inspire some of you to visit destinations that you might not previously have thought of.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I’m already looking forward to sharing my travel stories and photos with you.  Do come along and join my adventures!

    1. I’d love to visit Chattanooga one day. Over the years we’ve visited quite a number of National Parks in the west but we’ve not had an opportunity to explore further south yet. Southern fried hospitality sounds just my sort of thing!

  6. Hello Little Miss Traveller,

I enjoy looking at your travels and hope that I can visit all of the countries you have been to! I am new to blogging myself and I was wondering how you made the drop down menus.

    Thank you 🙂

  7. Greetings from Ukraine, our modes of traveling are different, it seems like we otherwise share much of our travel philosophy — i can’t even remember when was the last time i even remotely considered a travel agency! I also enjoy experiencing the places i visit through the eyes and advice of the locals 😀

Where do you think you’ve found the most hospitable people?

I haven’t been to as many (or as varied) places as you, but i must strongly recommend Eastern Europe, and hope you’ll make it here some day soon 😉

  9. We also enjoy planning our trip and then exploring on our own. It’s also nice to learn at least a little of the local language, if you don’t already know it. Best ‘About’ page I’ve seen 👍

  11. Love this. You are such an inspiration. Unfortunately for me, I only started travelling when I turned 30. But I know it is never to late to explore. As of now I am exploring my own country first then maybe by next year my husband and I will go to nearby countries. Please come to the Philippines. we have lovely beaches, falls and good food also.

  12. We love doing all our travel plans ourselves, too. We look at travel books, search the internet and read travel posts. Planning our own trips is half the fun, plus we get to know about so much about the destinations we’ll be visiting.
Thank you for visiting our blog and letting us know about yours. When we plan our next trip to the Netherlands, we’ll read your posts, since you’ve already been there!

  13. It’s my first time to create my own blog and when you followed me, it took a look on your blog and I loved it! Sadly, I’m still not good in customizing my blog site 😦 Anyway, you should definitely try visiting the Philippines. It will be my pleasure to help you on your itineraries going to the beautiful islands here in my country 🙂
