Location:

Yeats Country Hotel, Sligo
Yeats Country Hotel

Yeats Country Hotel is located in the village of Rosses Point on the edge of Sligo Bay.  The hotel overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and is just 4 miles (7km) from the county town of Sligo.

Arrival and check-in:

Yeats Country Hotel Reception
The spacious entrance hall and reception

The hotel commands an impressive location on an unspoilt headland with a large car park in front making it easy to transport luggage indoors.  Stepping through the doors into the entrance foyer we were greeted by Marie who was very welcoming. She took time to enquire how far we had travelled and of any plans we might have during our stay.

The Room:

After taking the lift up to our floor and following a corridor to its end we arrived at our deluxe room which was located on one corner of the building with large bay windows providing scenic ocean views.

The spacious room was classically styled and beautifully appointed with a king size bed, large comfortable sofa and a coffee table.  A wall mounted television was positioned so that we could watch it from both the bed and the lounge area and on the dressing table there was a hospitality tray with an assortment of teas and coffees which we made good use of.

Moving into the bathroom, this came equipped with a bath with shower over along with cosy dressing gowns, thick towels and complimentary toiletries to ensure we had a relaxing stay.

Dining

Winery Bar and Grill, Yeats Country Hotel, Sligo
The Winery Bar and Grill

Winery Bar & Grill – meals and light snacks are served in the cosy bar with its open fireplaces.  We enjoyed a traditional Irish stew which was both delicious and perfect comfort food for a cold winter day.

The Elsinore Restaurant

Elsinore Restaurant – for a more formal dining experience, meals are also served in the hotel’s large restaurant.  Breakfast is also served in this restaurant and we enjoyed a full cooked breakfast sitting in the bay window looking out to sea.

Facilities:

Cosy Lounge, Yeats Country Hotel, Sligo

Lounges – leading off the hotel’s lobby are several lounges, each with its own open fire, sofas and armchairs.  After dining in the bar we relaxed in one of them listening to some live music.  Entertainment takes place most weekend evenings with some talented local musicians.

Leisure Centre, Yeats Country Hotel, Sligo
The hotel’s leisure centre

Leisure Centre – The hotel has its own impressive leisure centre complete with 18m pool, children’s pool, jacuzzi, steam room and fully equipped gym available to guests staying at the hotel.

Take a stroll along the seafront outside the hotel’s front door where you’ll find large stretches of golden sand backed by low sand dunes.  Stop to read the information board at the Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Point from where there are splendid mountain views of Knocknarea to the south and Benbulben to the north.

Waiting on the Shore Statue, Rosses Point, Sligo

Don’t miss the evocative monument ‘Waiting on the Shore’ situated at the entrance to the lifeboat station.  This striking statue was erected in memory to all those lost at sea.

Offshore, look out for the Metal Man, a 3.7m guardian statue erected in 1821 pointing a safe course for seafarers into the harbour.

Sligo Town

Just fifteen minutes down the road is the pretty county town of Sligo.  Enjoy a riverside stroll through the centre and take a look in some of its quaint small shops and inviting little cafes and bars.

Look out for the monument to W.B. Yeats outside Ulster Bank and inspect the remains of the Dominican Sligo Abbey a few streets away.  Browse the shops along O’Connell Street where you’ll find a mixture of high street brands intermingled with some local independents.

Yeats Country Hotel, Rosses Point, Sligo
Yeats Country Hotel

Yeats Country Hotel’s position overlooking pristine Blue Flag beaches makes it ideal for a seaside holiday with the benefit of its leisure centre out of the summer season.  It’s perfect for golf breaks too as it is literally next door to a challenging 18 hole course.  Guest rooms have recently been refurbished in tasteful muted shades and with food and service of a high standard the hotel makes a good base for touring the Sligo section of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Sligo Town is such a pretty place with the river meandering its way through the centre. The Yeats statue has been designed really well, hasn’t it.

Sligo’s a gem for sure. Rosse’s Point makes a good base. Visit Austie’s if you get the chance, fine food, drink and ambience. Weather looks quite wild for your stay, Marion, but that’s the West for you.
