Hotel Review

Leading such hectic lives we decided to enjoy a relaxing break at the lovely Cheshire Boutique Barns located in Wrenbury, in the midst of southern Cheshire’s rolling countryside and leafy lanes.  Although the accommodation’s tranquil setting may sound remote, it’s actually easily accessible from the M6 motorway with Nantwich being only 5 miles away and historic Chester an easy 20 miles drive.

Set in the grounds of the owner’s property, Heald Country House are four self-contained 5 star boutique barns which were totally derelict when the Hill’s purchased the property back in 2005 but with flair have been converted into luxury accommodation.  The barns, each unique but equally beautiful are called the Garden Room, Cowshed, Nest and Old Parlour giving a nod to their former use.

Inside the gorgeous Garden Room accommodation

Our short break was in the Garden Room which has its own secluded entrance at the end of the drive.  With flowers around the door and a comfortable garden bench in the porch, we knew we were in for a treat.  Accessed by one of those lovely barn doors, where the upper half can be left open, we stepped into our spacious yet cosy accommodation.

It was the perfect place for a luxury retreat with its deep, feather filled squashy sofas, wood panelling in Farrow & Ball muted shades and contemporary rustic styling.

Garden furniture and a fire pit on the patio of the Garden Room

The Garden Room certainly lives up to its name with large windows overlooking its own secluded garden.  Sadly, it decided to drizzle for the majority of our stay which was such a shame as there were two sun loungers plus a table and chairs for al fresco dining.  I longed for it to stop raining as there was even a fire pit to sit around where we could have snuggled up in cosy blankets toasting marshmallows whilst enjoying a glass of fizz.

Despite the rain, we were still able to enjoy splendid views from the barn windows looking out across lush green fields with just the occasional sheep for company.

The huge copper bath viewed from the living area

The piéce de rèsistance for me was the stunning bathroom with its huge free standing copper bath and large walk-in shower.  The bathroom has been cleverly designed with large folding doors enabling guests to either bathe in privacy or open to the living area facing the roaring fire.  I was already looking forward to a long, candlelit soak later in the evening.

The Garden Room doesn’t have an actual kitchen but along the far wall we found all the makings of a perfect breakfast – a microwave oven, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, electric egg boiler, small fridge and a freezer.

The day bed was my favourite place to relax

Everything has been thought of, down to beautifully hand written luggage labels attached to cupboard doors describing their contents.  There’s a plentiful supply of plates, dishes, wine glasses, cutlery etc. and the large circular dining table had been attractively laid prior to our arrival, just ready for a romantic meal for two.

Rachael, our host popped over to meet us and to check all was well.  Our stay was exceeding our already high expectations and we wanted for nothing.  It was lovely meeting Rachael who made us feel very welcome with her warm, friendly manner and to know that she was on hand if we needed anything.  We were just about to go out so she suggested lighting the wood burning stove for us so that we could curl up in front of it on our return from the pub.

Cosy sitting by the wood burning stove

Despite Wrenbury being a small village, it boasts not one, but two award winning gastro pubs so we chose the nearest which was just a ten minute walk away down a sleepy tree lined lane.  There are even torches in the barn to help you find your way back in the dark and although we all now have torches built in to our phones, it saved stumbling over and breaking them.

The huge copper bath in the Garden Room’s bathroom

After a leisurely meal we sauntered back to our barn and ran a bath full of bubbles in the huge copper bath.  It was blissful soaking in the deep tub with its huge overhead skylights, absolutely perfect for star gazing on a clear evening.  The copper bath retained its heat and I comfortably relaxed for what seemed like ages pampering myself with The White Company complimentary toiletries.

The remainder of the evening was spent sitting by the fire in fluffy spotted dressing gowns.  In addition to the large wall mounted TV, and super fast wi-fi there’s a huge selection of DVDs, board games and books to keep everyone happy.

The mezzanine level king sized bed

Bedtime beckoned, with the sleeping area upstairs on a mezzanine level.  Here we slept soundly in the king size bed under crisp white bedlinen to the soothing sounds of the crackling fire below.

Next morning, we prepared our own breakfast and enjoyed a leisurely start to the day sitting at the window table overlooking the garden.  The other barns come equipped with kitchens for full self catering options but as we didn’t plan to do any cooking, the Garden Room was the ideal choice for us.

The perfect start to the day

Our short break at Cheshire Boutique Barns had recharged our batteries and helped us to unwind.  For a luxurious romantic break or a get-away from it all, its definitely the place to come, nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.

I would like to thank Cheshire Boutique Barns for kindly inviting us to review their accommodation.  Although our stay was provided on a complimentary basis, all views and opinions are as always, entirely my own.

It looks very cute and cozy. I love weekend breaks away from the city in the countryside. When I went to Wales we had sheep next to us as well and I found the sounds they make very soothing actually.

Not a bad weekend really but still raining up here in Scotland unfortunately. Not getting the great weather of the south coast.

You are so welcome. The photo made me a bit melancholy..we just recently sold our place in North Carolina (where I had a free-standing tub) and moved back to Florida (where I don’t have one.) Gosh, do I miss that crazy thing! I told my friend I was going to write a sad country music song titled “Some other woman is soaking in my tub!” ha, ha! 😉

Best purchase we ever made..ordered from Amazon if you can believe it. My husband even put a small TV on the wall so I could watch my murder mysteries while I soaked..he’d even make me an Old Fashioned every so often making it a full five star spa experience. I know..what a spoiled brat I was..but yeah, I totally recommend getting your own one day!
