Checking in at the Qatar Airways desk of Terminal 3 was very quick, so we had plenty of time to explore the terminal building. Our first stop was to the Changi Butterfly Park on the upper floor which was a haven of tranquility in the midst of an international airport and certainly worth a visit.
After having a snack and visiting the duty free shop it was time to board our flight to Doha. We travelled on a new A350 airliner which had only been in service for two weeks. As usual with Qatar Airways, we found the in-flight service to be very good.
We were in transit at Doha Airport for less than two hours before boarding our final flight of the holiday to Manchester on an A330-300 airliner. When we arrived at the gate we were delighted to discover that we had been upgraded to business class making it a perfect end to a splendid holiday. It’s the first time that this had happened to us and I’ve no idea how we came to be chosen, but we certainly enjoyed the comfortable, reclining seats which had so much leg room enabling the flight attendant to serve us from the front.
Before take off we were offered cocktails or pink vintage champagne with nibbles. Soon after becoming airborne, leather bound menus were handed out offering a range of a la carte dishes which could be ordered at any time during the flight. After another glass of champagne our dinner was served on elegant porcelain plates, it was definitely fine dining in the sky with so much attention to detail. To complete the meal, I ordered a cappuccino which was served with a small box of chocolates, what a treat!
After dinner we were asked if we would like to change into pyjamas so that we would be more comfortable on the overnight flight, these were brought in appropriate sizes, were stylish and contained silk. Also provided were attractive amenity kits containing Armani toiletries with perfume or aftershave. Ready for a sleep, we fully reclined our seats enabling us to stretch out and sleep comfortably for a few hours. Breakfast could be taken whenever we wished. I had eaten so much for dinner that I just opted for a smoothie, yoghurt and fresh fruit but my travelling companion went for the full works, informing me that it was very tasty.
On coming in to land, we felt fully refreshed and it didn’t seem as if we had just travelled on an overnight, long haul flight. Thank you Qatar Airways for allowing us the opportunity to experience Business Class travel, it certainly was the icing on the cake at the end of our lovely holiday.
I would definitely like to visit Singapore again, it’s such a fascinating destination, an ultra modern city centre combined with easily accessible beaches, rainforest walks and the cultural mix of Little India, Chinatown and the Arab District. Perhaps my posts on Singapore might inspire some of you to visit this beautiful island state too, I hope so.
